#2 project for the summer

Besides working on our bad eating habits, we have this project to work on:

Meet Jesse, aka Jelly, aka Jellybelly, aka Potpie.  He came from the same wonderful lady that we got Russell from.  For the past 5 years she has always been there for us when we had questions and sought advice about our first French Bulldog.  When Jesse became available, I was a little hesitant– we have two male dogs already;  how would a third fit in?  The timing was a little wrong.  We weren’t ever planning on having three dogs at once, but I kept coming back to his photo.  On Easter weekend I asked Mike what he thought, and he said “why not?”  So we jumped in the car on Easter Sunday and drove the 6 1/2 hours to Pennsylvania (and 6 1/2 hours back) to pick up this character.

He gets along great with the other boys  (Russell loves him– he just always has that expression on his mug):

He has become Katie’s constant companion

Since they are so devoted to each other, I’ve decided to let Katie take charge of raising this pup and she is doing a great job!  Here they are in obedience class:

Puppies sure are a lot of work!

Today I’m eating pound cake.

The first thing on my agenda during this break from RSE, is to get my health back on track.  Katie and I are doing a sort of healthy eating boot camp:  Whole30 .  We are starting tomorrow, June 1.

And today I find myself stuffing my face with pound cake that will have to be thrown away at midnight :/  This is exactly the kind of behavior I’m hoping to modify by doing this whole30 thing!

An announcement from RSE

I have decided to take some time to step back and do some revamping of RSE. There are two reasons for this. One, to take a look at my business model and make a few changes in how I manage the company. Two, to reawaken my creativity which has gradually taken a back seat to production over the 11 years I have been in business.

Because of this, I will not be taking any orders for an extended length of time. Any previous orders that have been finalized will still be honored, and I will continue to stock my etsy shop periodically. I have a small coop/preorder scheduled for late summer that will still take place (through The Squirmie Worm on facebook), however, I will not be attending any shows this summer, and I will not do the holiday custom order this year.

Since creativity is an imprecise thing, I cannot put a definite date on when I will bring RSE back to full throttle again, but I do plan on doing so, hopefully by this time next year.

Thank you to all my customers and friends!

It’s been awhile since I blogged- how have you all been?  :)  I have been wrapping up some large orders and getting ready for this upcoming show!

The Rhode Island Sheep and Fiber Festival (here is their website ) is held at Coggeshall Farm in Bristol, Rhode Island.  It’s a lovely place to visit at any time, with all sorts of heritage farm animals, buildings and activities.  The Fiber festival is a great place to stock up on lovely handmade, hand dyed or handspun yarn and fiber and also fiber related crafts of all sorts!

I will be there with my pottery with a larger than usual selection of yarn bowls and sheep- and fiber-related mugs along with my usual offerings.  Hope to see you there!  It will be held rain or shine.

The Great Rhody Yarn Crawl is here!

I hope everyone has a great time crawling all the wonderful yarn shops in RI, and I will meet you at the Culmination Marketplace on Sunday at Mount Hope Farm (12-4:30).  I will have yarn bowls, fiber-themed mugs, BUTTONS (new!) and a few other items.

For more information, click here:  The Great Rhody Yarn Crawl

I will have all my products at my next show, the RI Wool and Fiber Festival, in May (see Schedule tab for more information).

Beneath the Rowan Tree

It’s a beautiful, colorful, happy place.  A friend of mine, Lori Campbell, has a wonderful online business that has been concentrating on creative Waldorf-style toys and playthings meant to stimulate a child’s imagination.

She is now taking a new turn in her endeavors and fitting out a small studio to start a new venture of dyeing yarns and fibers.  I love her colors!

**She just let me know that the yarn rewards have DOUBLED!!**
She has started a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds to get this studio completed, and I thought I would help spread the word.  The Kickstarter link is here:

If you have the time, check out her story and take a look at all the rewards for donations!

Thanks!  <3  -June

Last week there was an explosion.

My facebook timeline blew up with selfies of people with their RSE, all with the hashtags #dontdropyerrse and #rselove.  It was quite unexpected and very much appreciated!  I had been chatting with some facebook friends of mine and bemoaning the fact that yes, pottery does break, and I really hate it when it does.  I hate it a thousand times more when it happens to my customers, many of whom then post pictures of their broken RSE on facebook and other social media in their despair and tag me to share in their woe.  And I wish with all my heart that I could make my stuff bounce, because I know that sick feeling when it goes crashing to the floor.  UGH!

So, my friend Nikki posted this selfie to my timeline:

and this:

and then my friend Lori posted this:

And then Robin:

and then rse selfies started coming thick and fast! Gwen (the organizational mastermind behind my coops and custom order binges):

Parade of Pigs 2013

I am finishing up all those custom orders and I had two customers order a BUNCH of piggy banks!  I thought it would be fun to take a photo of them all together… so here they are!

IMG_8276 IMG_8278 IMG_8279

From left to right, in no particular order, we have My Chemical Romance/Goth pig, Les Miserables/Jean Valjean pig (this one is actually Katie’s), Doctor Who pigs Ten and Eleven, Alex pig from A Clockwork Orange, Aviator pig, Pirate pig, Hellboy pig, Octonauts pig, Hobbit pig, Princess pig and Poe pig.

Here they are from behind:

IMG_8280 IMG_8281 IMG_8282

And details from some of my favorites!

My Chemical Romance pig.  I gave him a pasty Goth kind of complexion with some smeared eyeliner:

The recipient of this pig loves their Black Parade album especially, so I put a gothy parade uniform on him and I gave him a tattoo.

One of the Doctor Who pigs.

He’s holding a sonic screwdriver- this is #10.

One of my favorites- Aviator pig!

He has a scarf blowing back and a tattoo of some aviator wings.

And here is Octonauts pig, for a fan of the children’s TV show.

I thought I’d give him a tentacle instead of a tail, LOL.

I also especially like Hobbit pig.  He’s wearing the Precious in his ear since he doesn’t have fingers, heh heh.  He has a hobbit door in his side.

Some Elven script on his side, and he doesn’t go anywhere without his pipe!

And finally, Poe pig, who was in the wet clay stage a few posts back.  Here he is finished!

He has some Poe-ish quotes on his sides and keeps his telltale heart under the floorboards.

Thanks for looking!  This was an especially challenging and fun group of pigs!  Please wish them safe travels to their new homes!
