Senility has already taken hold.
I made this:
It is for someone who shares my birthday- Katie’s boss, Karla. You may have seen me mention her before- she is Karla Simmons- who runs Simmons Farm. Katie milks the cows and goats and runs the farm stand on Sundays. She thinks of Karla as her “second mom” and I could not have picked a better role model for my daughter. She is kind, cheerful, fun, thoughtful, and the most hard working woman I know. We both love her to pieces. I don’t have a photo of her and Katie together. Must get one and put it here!
So anyway, there are three resident dairy cows at this farm: Olive, the sweet little Jersey who inspired this piece; Ruthie, a big girl who’s a little ornery at times; and Emma, the youngest, who has recently taken over the mothering of an orphan calf.
So I thought it would be funny to make a functional mug with a big pink udder. This was a very fiddly piece to do, and I won’t be taking orders for it because it would take more time than I really have, but it was SO NICE to sit down and just be creative again and make something that had been bouncing around inside my skull for a few months. I had a big smile on my face the whole time- I need to make more time to just have fun with the clay.
